Collywarblers Gazette 2nd edition
Sat, 8 Nov 2025Printable version
As we enter our 20th year, Colliers Wood Chorus has got a new look, a new partnership and a renewed commitment to our community
Welcome to your next edition of our Collywarblers Gazette!
Firstly - a little reminder that you can keep track of our Festive Season engagements on our nifty events calendar... check it out on our homepage
Over the summer we rebranded with the help of Miranda (a marketing guru and fellow warbler) and we’re delighted with our new logo and colour scheme... you’ll see the logos and our branding roll out over the next few months. We’ve used the new branding on a flyer-campaign and managed to recruit 8 new members so it seems to be working!
Are YOU in the club?
Our 100Club is still going strong and paying out a whopping £100 a month (plus festive bonus draw) and still proving to be a very effective fundraiser for us - there are still a few numbers available. Each number costs £5 and you can increase your chances with multiple numbers. Email us to sign up NOW and make sure you don’t miss the next draw!!!
Two Collywarblers Honoured by Antonia Moxham
Big Congratulations to Shirley and Lindsay from Colliers Wood Chorus
Both Shirley and Lindsay were chosen this year to receive medals for their
volunteering activities.
Lindsay was chosen for her years of volunteering at Morden Hall Park, but
we mustn’t forget her years of service too doing Music Mayhem at Colliers
Wood Library! (ed: and 8 years as our chair)
Shirley has done over 25 years as a volunteer for various organisations including Sure Start, and now volunteers at the Polka Theatre and the Wimbledon Guild. She is also a befriender, speaking with lonely people on the phone.
They attended a special Merton Connected event at the Vestry Hall on the evening of 30th October, during Volunteers Week, where they were thanked for their service and presented with their medals by the Mayor. Many other groups were represented and received medals too.

Two interesting facts:
Around 240,000 people live in Merton. And 19% of them are volunteers - one of the highest percentages in London.
which brings us neatly to the next item:
New Partnership with Dons Local Action Group
Since 2024 CWC has made some new friends in high places - one being the local football pitch! The Dons Local Action Group (DLAG for short) has reached out to us to help mark a big anniversary for them - they turned 5 in March and we were in attendance, flashmobbing a tea-party and having a great time wishing them a happy birthday. We’ll be teaming up with them over the Christmas period, joining forces to sing carols outside Morrisons on the Piazza in Wimbledon, and finding other opportunities for warblers to volunteer and support this incredible local cause with its veritable army of eager volunteers. We’re so committed to continuing to serve our local community as our core value and this partnership is a great fit, especially now! You can see more of DLAG’s amazing work and how you might like to help them here: Home - Dons Local Action
Our 20th Anniversary
Preparations are underway for our 20th Aniversary and the exciting events we’ve programming throughout 2026/2027. Firstly, we’ll be hosting a big concert on the last weekend of September 2026 to mark our birthday, and we’re inviting former members to get in touch if you’d like to come and sing some of the CWC-classics. If you’re interested in joining us for the performance as a former-warbler, please contact Christopher. Email him on md@cwchorus.org.uk
We would also like to create a scrapbook for Colliers Wood Chorus - if you have any photos or old programmes or posters that we can have copies of, please do email us about them.
We’ll also be staging a production of Die Fledermaus with Opera Alegria in 2027 as the bookend of our birthday celebrations, and we’re very excited about this partnership, too.
